School districts have a unique situation relating to part-time employees who work variable hours per week and their requirements to provide affordable heath care to those who qualify.

“Penalties are extremely large a district is not in compliance,” according to Geoffrey Smith, Director of STEDI.org. “Even though a district may be paying $28MM/year in health care benefits for their employees, they could be fined $10MM if they miss offering health care to a single-qualifying individual.”

The Affordable Care Act and Substitute Teacher Discussion Webinar will present findings from recent surveys conducted by STEDI.org and will feature a discussion on solutions and suggested strategies discovered in the surveys.

The webinar and discussion will be lead by Geoffrey Smith, founding and former director of the Substitute Teaching Institute at Utah State University and who is the current director of STEDI.org.

Special guest panelist is Ken Babcock, Director Employee Relations, Lincoln Public Schools in Nebraska who is a national leader in understanding the affects the new health care law will have on school districts.
